Work in Prison Programme: Sirti starts the first pilot project "Hope" in the Turin Prison

27 June 2022

Sirti is among the partners of the Ministry of Justice and the Ministry for Technological Innovation and the Digital Transition on the work in Prison Programme, the aim of which is to create work opportunities for prisoners to obtain skills in the Telecommunications and Information & Communication Technology sectors.

This practical programme seeks to offer prisoners the opportunity to acquire new skills they will also be able to use when their term of imprisonment has been completed, in two sectors that are crucial for the country’s future development.

In this context, Sirti has acted as coordinator of the training projects in the network infrastructures area, and in reconditioning work, indispensable for bringing broadband services to homes, schools, healthcare facilities and remote sites, finalising a pilot project involving Turin Prison.

The pilot project in Turin allowed the company to draft a series of guidelines, teaching models and workshop organisation frameworks that it will be able to share at national level, so they can be replicated by all those companies wishing to take part in such schemes in the future.

Encouraged by the success of the project in Turin Prison, Sirti has undertaken a similar project at Rebibbia Prison, in synergy with Open Fiber.

Laura Cioli, CEO of Sirti: “I believe that the Work in Prison Programme is an effective example of how crucial issues for the country, such as the lack of qualified workers and the need to rehabilitate prisoners, can be tackled using innovative methods, thanks to the systematic collaboration between the Institutions and private enterprise. This approach is also closely aligned with our “hands-on” philosophy, one of the strategic cornerstones that has distinguished what we do for over 100 years. This is why we decided to join the project and enthusiastically play an active part in it, in the hope that it may be of inspiration in the future for a growing number of companies”.
