Ever since the Twenties of last century Sirti has been operating in the public railway and local transport sector, producing telecommunications, energy and safety systems, as well as a broad range of auxiliary systems and installations.
The main objective of the project was to electrify the Bari Sud Est – Putignano section of railway line, thus enabling the diesel locomotives travelling along this line until the end of 2015 to be decommissioned.
The electrification works and consequent use of electric locomotives will increase the power of the locomotives, the speed and performance of the trains, also allowing a reduction in energy consumption, maintenance costs and pollutant emissions.
Ferrovie del Sud Est, the largest public transport company in the region of Puglia. The railway network, with its 474 km of lines, is the largest uniform Italian network after Ferrovie dello Stato (with which it is interconnected).
Sirti has designed, supplied, installed and tested the contact line, the electric substations, the electric substation activation and control system (DOTE – Direzione Operativa Trazione Elettrica / Operational Electric Traction Controller) and the telecommunications network; in the same sections, Sirti also designed, supplied and installed the CTC (Controllo del Traffico Centralizzato / Centralised Traffic Control) system ACEI (Apparato Centrale Elettrico a Itinerari / Central electrically controlled shunting device) control system (produced entirely by the Sirti Research Centre in Genoa).
