Since the 1920s, Sirti has been operating in the local and rail public transport sector, producing telecommunications, energy and safety systems, as well as a wide range of integrated and auxiliary systems.
The project's goal
The main objective of the project is the electrification of the Bari South-East – Putignano segment, which allowed the retirement of the old diesel engines that covered the segment until late 2015.
The electrification works, and consequent use of electric traction locomotives, will increase the power of the locomotive engines, as well as the speed and performance of the trains, also allowing for a reduction in energy consumption, maintenance costs and polluting factors.
Client
Ferrovie del Sud Est, the largest public transport company operating in the region of Puglia. With its 474 km of line, the railway network constitutes, after Ferrovie dello Stato (to which it is interconnected), the largest homogeneous Italian network.
Technologies
Sirti designed, supplied, installed and tested the contact line, electrical substations, the electrical substation command and control system (DOTE – Direzione Operativa Trazione Elettrica) and the telecommunications network; for the same segments Sirti also designed, supplied and installed the ACEI (Apparato Centrale Elettrico a Itinerari) control system for the CTC station (built entirely by the Sirti Research Centre in Genoa).
In summary:
- Computerised railway signalling
- Telecommunications network
- Electric substations (DOTE – Direzione Operativa Trazione Elettrica)
