Innovative concepts come from both internal sources through open innovation models aimed at enhancing the value of the skills and experience of company resources, and external sources from scouting and corporate venturing of the best start ups and technological partners.
The concepts are processed and developed using a structured process in order to identify business solutions with good potential that can respond well to market developments and provide companies with the necessary flexibility.
COMMUNITY
Sharing information and dialogue between universities, research centres, public administration enterprises is done because of the desire for innovation and the common goal of contributing to technological development to the benefit of the country’s economic system. Sirti’s active participation in associations and in communities is in the form of giving a real contribution in order to guide industrial research and experimental development activities.
INSTRUMENTS
Within the scope of the proof of concept, the innovation labs in the Milan, Genoa and Rome offices host and integrate the most innovative technological solutions; the concepts are then tested in the field through pilot projects.
ARCHITECTURE AND TECHNOLOGY
The collaboration with suppliers, partners, research entities, universities and customers creates a system in which the architecture and processes are defined, the most suitable technology is identified, advanced forms of integration are studied for the open and future-proof construction of solutions provided that they are sustainable and will last through time.
Sirti is currently involved in developing projects that mainly involve the Internet of Things, and areas linked to energy efficiency in buildings and the monitoring and management of complex physical networks.
Internet of Things
The basic requirement in the development of Smart Cities, Smart Metering, Industrial IoT and Wearable is to implement a network communication infrastructure (Smart Urban Infrastructure) to the benefit of the public and companies.
The use of a Smart Urban Infrastructure to share objects and solutions means that the silos approach can be surmounted, and each goal and each solution can use their own specific communication infrastructures.
In order to guarantee more efficient and effective services to the public, financially sustainable solutions have to be found, that support business models which include innovative schemes such as public-private partnerships and project financing.
Outside Plant & Indoor
The experience gained in almost one hundred years of activity in the area makes Sirti a leader in the development of products and solutions to increase quality and profitability in the creation of telecommunication networks and other networks. Sirti solutions – many of which have been awarded Italian and foreign patents – involve digging techniques that have low environmental impact, fibre networks using micro-technology, no-dig systems for the entrance into buildings and vertical cabling systems. Sirti also uses a three-dimensional georadar system for real-time subsoil surveying, which is also useful for digging and in land surveys.
Smart Operations
There are several advantages to the Sirti model for creating and managing technological plants, including the following main ones:
- Efficient governance of the design and delivery processes
- The Design Centre with clear guidelines
- Acceleration of realisation times
- Uniform design and data processing criteria
- The option to use the Sirti platform as a GIS-oriented inventory of the assets
- The Managed Services supporting operations (delivery, assurance, CRM…)
- 100% cover and distribution granularity throughout the country
- Reliability, scalability and distribution of the infrastructures
Energy efficiency
Energy efficiency is key in this era of sustainability and limited resources, and a basic requirement for any business developments.
Sirti takes this requirement on board, starting from the most suitable system, the ICT, and aims to export this experience to all surrounding environments: energy efficiency as an essential component of the “smart city”.
Working in ICT, Sirti has developed modular energy efficiency solutions that can be customised to apply to environments that range from big data centres to telecommunication stations to radio-mobile sites.
